If you want to know something about me not here, or you're too lazy to read, please see my FAQ for my most common questions.
This page is both about the web site Conspiracy Science and also me, Edward L Winston, the author of said web site. At one time I explained the history of the site first, then myself, but people seem more interested in me so the site history is below.
My name is Edward L Winston, and I live in St. Louis, Missouri, and I hate signs that say "No Right on Red", if you've ever been to St. Louis, you probably know what I'm talking about. I'm married and I have two children. Professionally I'm a software engineer for a modestly sized web development firm - I don't design web sites, I'm terrible at art and so forth; I just work on the backend and other software related things.
I have a lot of hobbies, this site is one of them. My other hobbies are astronomy (I have several telescopes), history (I read a lot of books related to it), politics (I'm a technocrat - see FAQ), watching movies and documentaries, and of course computers and other technological stuff.
I went to a 4 year college, where I primarily studied things related to software engineering, computer science, and astronomy. I also attended a community college to get my basic course (English, Math) requirements out of the way -- in the US colleges have you take English, Math, etc all over again, many Europeans find this surprising. I also took a lot of history courses and language courses. My family isn't well off though, my parents are both blue collar -- my mother works in textiles and my father works on an assembly line -- and I had to use my own money to go to college.
I am not a member of the "Illuminati", I'm not Jewish, or a reptile half-breed from another dimension/planet, I do not work for any government or mega-corporation; I have absolutely no vested interest in the success of any of the conspiracies I debunk. To me, conspiracy theories are generally all about the same thing, something big happens or might happen, and the people behind it are the rich, Jews, Catholics, aliens, Illuminati, communists, or whoever people want to insert.
In late 2007 I heard about this movie going around the Internet about conspiracies such as Christianity, September 11th, and the Federal Reserve, about how all of these things culminate to control you and put chips in your arms and convert North America into a single country with a single currency called "The Amero"; no I'm not joking, this movie does make such claims. I searched the Internet trying to find a web site that debunked the entire movie, but I could not, and what I did find typically was a Christian web site debunking only Part I. It was astonishing to me how even some of these Christian sites would agree with Parts II and III, but not Part I.
You can read about all of the claims of the movie and my rebuttals on the Zeitgeist, the movie article.
It was not long after that I had decided to create a web site that did debunk this movie - and originally I was going to use something like blogger, but instead I opted to just make my own site. After my web site becoming slightly successful from Zeitgeist, I decided to talk about other conspiracy theories I've always been interested in.
On the site I try to analyze conspiracy theorists based on evidence, both the evidence they provide and my own. At the same time, I try to make it a little fun and entertaining, and not so dry - though that isn't easy. Unfortunately I just don't have the skills to make a movie like Peter Joseph.
